Buppies is an acronom for black "up and coming" people in South Africa. This project required that students become marketers as they chose an authentic South African product and attempted to market this product to two very different sectors of the South African economy. First the product was marketed to the growing upwardly mobile black population in South Africa. The second commercial that students created targeted impoverished township dwellers. The goal of the project was to have students carefully examine the economy of the country as they also learned how to market foreign products to a foreign populous. Many of the students in this class will go to Cape Town in May of 2011 and hopefully be more linked to the economy and two parts of this as a result of having completed this project.
